Canvas integration
The lecture belongs
in the course.
Instructors publish where they teach. Students open a recording from Canvas and watch the embedded Capture player without a separate Capture login.
What the Canvas connection does
Capture uses LTI 1.3 for secure launches and LTI Advantage services for course integration. A launch creates or finds Capture’s course and user records and maps the Canvas role into that course. It does not create a Canvas course shell.
Open Capture from the Canvas course navigation.
Place a recording in a course using supported deep linking and publishing configuration.
Watch the selected lecture inside Canvas with course-scoped access.
A player designed for multiple sources
The embedded player is Capture’s player. It brings synchronized screen and camera tracks together with playback speed, captions, transcripts, notes and non-destructive lecture edits. Canvas supplies the course context; Capture supplies recording and playback.
Rosters and permissions
Names and Role Provisioning Services can synchronize the course roster. Capture administrators can adjust the viewing, editing and recording permissions attached to course roles such as instructor and TA. Supported Canvas REST provisioning can create users and synchronize administrative enrollment changes when authorized by your institution.
Implementation with your Canvas administrator
- Register the LTI developer key and agree on placements and launch configuration.
- Configure roster and publishing permissions with the institution’s administrator.
- Test instructor and student launches, permissions, captions and course isolation.
- Review Entra staff sign-in and any native recording workflow as a separate identity configuration.
Plan for the recording service’s availability
An embedded lecture still depends on Capture. Canvas continuing to run does not provide a backup Capture player. Hosting, backups, recovery and any redundancy are part of the deployment scope.
